The non-fiction output continues with a new Essential Short Guide to PRINCE2® e-book. Sub-titled Introducing PRojects IN Controlled Environments, this guide is aimed at newcomers to the PRINCE2 project management framework. After three decades of project-based working, this is as much a critique as an entry-level how-to guide.
It is intended to ease newcomers in gently to the variables, themes, principles and processes of PRINCE2®. The commentary in this short guide focuses on the practicalities of using PRINCE2® for projects emphasising:
- ways of thinking about projects
- embedding the framework in the culture of an organisation
- the importance of project communications
While the official 413-page manual describes the whole framework in depth for practitioners, this Essential Short Guide is a much more manageable thirty or so pages for those new to project-based working and the PRINCE2® method.
Like our other Essential Short Guides, this aims for around an hour’s reading time. It runs through the basic PRINCE2® concepts and terms, the six aspects, seven principles, seven themes and seven processes to better explain how and why all the components cross-check and validate each other. It also highlights some project failure points that are unfairly blamed on the method.
